We are six days away from OnePlus revealing their new phone and as a proud owner of OnePlus 2, I am excited to see what the company has to offer next.
For those who don’t know about OnePlus or about their phones, let me bring you up to speed. If you haven’t heard of the company before, I won’t blame you. OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone manufacturing company that prides itself on making smartphones that can rival phones by Samsung and Apple, at an affordable price.
But here’s a twist: you can’t just buy it from your high street retailer or from their own site. You need an invite to purchase. It’s this sense and feel of exclusivity that made OnePlus phones stand out in your smartphone market. The reviews were positive and people wanted them but invites were hard to come by. It also meant that the company only made the amount of handsets it knew will definitely be sold.
For a company that was founded in 2013 and now has revenue of $300 million, I think the invite-only model served them good.
But for OnePlus 3, the company is taking a different route.
OnePlus 3 will not be sold on invite-only basis and will be available to all. Rumors suggest that there will be six variations of OnePlus 3 available to purchase from the company’s site but the official announcement will be made in six days.
Oh, and one more thing: OnePlus 3 will be announced in a VR environment referred to as ‘The Loop’. The app is available to download for free on Google Play.
